Q. Is this a new product?

Although most people have only recently become aware of chemical staining, it has been used since the turn of the century. The “Big Sur Inn” California was stained in the early 1900’s and the floor still looks great today! Chemical staining is used extensively in Las Vegas, specifically in “Caesars Palace” retail mall area because of its beauty and durability.

Q. Why does concrete need maintenance?

The common misconception is that concrete has no maintenance. There is no doubt that concrete is a very hard-wearing, long-lasting product with low maintenance. So when someone mentions maintenance, it often surprises people when the subject is brought up. However, properly maintaining your concrete through regular sealing or waxing every few years can greatly extend the life and beauty of it. Decorative Concrete can look as good as it did the day it was finished instead of dirty, faded and worn.

Q. Will my concrete appear like the color shown on this web site?

Due to the different make up and porous qualities of the concrete, the stain may not exactly match the pictures shown. This fact enables your job to become one-of-a-kind!

Q. How do I clean stained concrete flooring?

Here are three common steps to cleaning stained concrete floors.

  1. For general cleaning, just simply use water and a soft finish mop should remove any surface dirt.
  2. For deeper cleaning, use water with a mild soap, such as dawn.
  3. For areas where it looks as though the sealer may have been worn through, general cleaning is recommended, and the surface may need to have the sealer reapplied in high traffic areas.

Q. How many colors are there?

There are many colors to choose from depending on the type of stain used. Earth tone colors are available with acid stains and more vibrant bright colors can be achieved with pigment stains or dyes

Q. Is stained concrete slippery? What about around our pool area?

The truth: They can be, especially when wet or if a beverage was spilt, but no more so than vinyl, linoleum, marble or ceramic tile floors. The reality: Application of a high-gloss sealer to protect and enhance decorative concrete may reduce traction. In outdoor areas this issue is easily remedied by mixing a nonslip additive or a grit (sand) to the final sealer. Usually, around pool areas and sometimes outdoor patios are the most common places these remedies are used.

Q. I would like to change my existing patio into a new stamped concrete surface? Should I re-pour a new surface, or go with a decorative concrete overlay?

A decorative concrete overlay is just that; it is a highly durable thinset layer of hybrid polymer concrete that overlays an existing patio, floor, foyer, driveway, or sidewalk. When an overlay is applied, there are numerous variations and choices on the look of stamp patterns and finishes to choose from. Whereas stamped concrete is a completely new pour of concrete where a pattern is stamped into the concrete at the time of the pour.

Q: What can a Decorative Concrete Overlay be applied to?

Most systems can be applied to concrete, asphalt, wood, tile and stone. Overlays can generally be applied to any stable surface regardless of its composition. In other words, it can bond to almost anything.

Q. What is the difference in cost between decorative concrete overlays and stamping a new concrete slab?

Decorative concrete overlays are a much more cost effective way to create value and beauty inside or outside of your home. Because the overlay goes over existing concrete there is no expensive tear-out, grading, or excavation.
